Everything you need to know about climate

Often, when going on vacation, you are faced with a choice of where to go. First tip: decide what is most important to you. If you prefer an affordable luxury all-inclusive housing right by the coastline with an infinite amount of sea, a minimum of trips and excursions, then Turkey is the very place for you.

No other European resort is able to boast of such favorable conditions of rest. The climate in Turkey is a little dry, but mild and attractive, which allows you to relax in these parts all year round. This amazing country, where the West and the East meet and their cultures are organically intertwined becomes a real earthly paradise for tourists and newcomers. It is better to go there by car, so that you would be able to visit several regions of the country at once. Turk.Estate recommends you to take a look at apartments prices with parking in Turkey, so that you wouldn’t have to worry about your car’s safety while being in the country.

Four seas wash Turkey at once: the Aegean, the Black, the Mediterranean and the Marmara. Thanks to this, and also to the dismembered mountain relief, the country is divided into several climatic regions, each area has its own microclimate, its own nature and character. There is an arid half-steppe, and white snow-covered mountain spurs, dry continental air and humid sea air.

Climatic zones

Only in this amazing country weather conditions vary so much: at the same time of the year in different parts of it, a severe snowy winter on mountain peaks and hot and dry on beaches, scorching heat and torrential rains, sharp piercing wind and complete calm.

  • Mediterranean climate. Turkish Riviera – west and south of the country, on the coasts of the Mediterranean and Aegean Sea up to an altitude of 800 m. In the summer months it is hot and dry here, the average air temperature is 35°C and the water temperature is 26°C, and in winter it is cool and rainy and frosty only in the mountains. The resort area gives 300 hot sunny days a year.
  • Subtropical transitional climate. The coast of the Black Sea and the slopes of the Pontic Mountains. In fact, this is a transitional climate – from a Mediterranean climate to a humid subtropical one. And this is a characteristic feature and difference of these regions of the country. It remains soft because the mountains protect from the penetration of cold atmospheric currents from the interior of the country to the coast.
  • In the coldest of all months of the year, the temperature drops to 4-7°C, in the August heat it remains at 20-24°C. There is also enough precipitation, especially from October to March.
  • SemiArid climate. This is how the weather on the Anatolian Plateau is determined. Unfortunately, the amount of precipitation falling in this area can’t ensure either the growth of trees or the normal development of agricultural crops. In this climate, the fields require artificial irrigation.

If we characterize individual regions:

  • Aegean – eight provinces with a Mediterranean climate;
  • Black Sea – the northern part of the country with a fairly high humidity;
  • The Mediterranean is the most attractive for tourists, where the sun shines for 300 days;
  • Central Anatolia is a region with major megacities, tourist sites and a continental climate;
  • Southeastern Anatolia is a very small territory, very picturesque, with summer heat and mild rest of the seasons, it has the driest climate in Turkey;
  • Eastern Anatolia – here, among mountain ranges and plateau areas, winter lasts for almost 8 months, and frosts can be expected even in summer;
  • Marmara is a northern region, only three months of the beach season, but it also finds its admirers.

Precipitation

This is a country, most of the territory of which has a Mediterranean climate with hot summers and warm winters. Most precipitation falls on the mountain slopes, and more often in autumn and winter.

  • Anatolian Highlands. In the western regions precipitation is observed much more often than on the Mediterranean coast, but in summer in these areas of Turkey the climate is dry and arid, only in November-March.
  • In the center of the country and around Lake VanPik, winter is harsh, by local standards, and rainy spring and autumn.
  • Black Sea coast. Here precipitation is evenly distributed throughout the year, and no one will be surprised by heavy rains – heavy, prolonged.
  • Aegean and Mediterranean coasts. Precipitation differs only in the mountainous regions of Western Taurus and Uludag, and then in winter.

Weather by month

From the very middle of April to the middle of October inclusive is a beach season in Turkish resorts.

April

In Alanya, Antalya, Marmaris and Kemer, the weather is cool and windy. The water barely reaches 16-18°C and the air warms up only to 20-23°.

It's still not warm enough to enjoy sunbathing or swimming, but the beach season is already opening. The best resorts for spring holidays are Antalya, Belek, Kemer. You can book a tour on the yacht “Antalian" or visit the ancient Aspendos Theater in Side.

Summer Turkey

Starting from the first days of May, the beach bathing season begins in the country. The water temperature doesn’t drop below 20°C. Most tourists rush to Alanya, Antalya, Belek, Kemer to the most popular resorts.

May

It's not too hot yet, however, the beaches are already available. The warm embrace of Alanya, Kemer and Fethiye is open to you.

June

The best month to lie on the beach or swim in the sea, still it isn’t really hot in June yet.

July

The heat weave starts from the middle of July. The coasts of the Aegean Sea will be the best choice during this month, as the climate in the rest of Turkey is especially dry during this period.

August

The temperature of the water and air reaches a maximum. The most comfortable rest for tourists will be provided in any resort town on the coast of the Marmara and Black Seas.

Velvet season – autumn

During this period, in the northern regions of the country, the bathing season ends in most resorts because of the water temperature. Meanwhile, on the west coast, it is still possible to go swimming and sunbathing until the beginning of October.

September - October

Starting from the first half, it is best to relax on the shores of the Mediterranean and Aegean seas: in Bodrum, Marmaris, Kemer, Fethiye, Kusadasi. By the middle of the month, the air temperature also drops in Antalya, Alanya. The end of the month and then October bring the most comfortable weather, so the coast of the Marmara Sea becomes the best place to visit.

Winter holidays

November

The first half of the month is still suitable for holidays in Alanya, Antalya and Kemer. Interestingly, a variety of fruits are sold at the lowest possible prices during November. Outdoor sports admirers will also benefit, because a downhill skiing trip from Takhtaly Mountain is ready for such enthusiasts.

December

The guests will be greeted by warm and rather damp weather. In December, Pamukkale or Afyon-Karakhisar will be the best choice for tourists to visit. Well, if you are still willing to to plunge into the sea waters, Oilat and Bursa are suitable options for you.

January

Have you ever celebrated the New Year in Istanbul? Here you can expect stormy, yet elegant celebrations with endless fireworks. Here in Turkey, you will have a chance to taste local exotic drinks and foods.
